Could someone be kind enough to explain what this message from hosting means as to what they are doing and possibly how LONG it might take for them to accomplish this task?

We are working to get the server up and running. Presently, we are getting errors while mounting the Operating System Template in the server. We are working to fix the mounting problem. Once the template gets mounted successfully, the server shall be up and running.

The current domain (not the new domain which has different hosting, thank God!) has been down for the past 24 hours so I am just trying to understand what their problem of "lack of intelligence" is causing this week so to possibly know how LONG the domain will be down.

The week before last this was what they claimed to be the problem.

We have done the file system check as it was mandatory in fixing this issue. The first stage of the system check is completed. It will take some time for the entire process to get completed, as there is very large amount of data in the server. Please hold on for the time period. I will keep you posted with more updates.

This above caused the current domain to be down for an ENTIRE WEEK! So, I am sure you can understand my frustration and my concern.

Webbo - All of my sites with this hosting company were down for an entire week and then back up for a week and now it's been down for six days. Who knows how long it will be down this time!

Yeah, I know, I should have changed hosting companies a LONG time ago but there has been a lot going on. . .illnesses, daughter having serious surgery that required me to be out of town for a long time, etc.

But, I've got a new hosting company and a new domain up and going now!

Ohhh, I've already done that, Carefree. I won't be charged for a whole month.

Five days and counting. . .

We are extremely sorry for the delay caused. The issue with the windows server is not yet fixed. The server has failed to restart. We are working with the disk issues. I will keep you posted with our updates.

That host is thoroughly incompetent. Sure hope nobody else here is suffering with them.

I don't think they have EVER really known what they are doing!

This is the latest reply from them:

The issue has become little complex.
Restoration attempts has failed twice and still we are working on this to make the server up. We will provide you periodic updates regarding the status of the issue. Sorry for the trouble caused.

Sure wish I had backed up that database a bit more recently!

Hope you are feeling better, Carefree! Praying for you. . .

Normally, only virtual operating systems are installed from templates. But from the message about failing to restore a backup, it sounds like the earlier excuse was simply that....

Sounds like their server failed (again). If they had a "ghosted" copy of the drive (with the server OS and virtual operating systems already loaded before ghosting), getting it back online would have taken less than 5 minutes.

Here's their latest excuse.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. The issue is with the main hardware node which is not yet fixed. We have tried to restore the server completely from the backup. But the restoration failed. Currently we are applying a hotfix in the main hardware node in which your domain is hosted. We will keep you posted with updates. Thank you for understanding.

Does this mean everything may be LOST?
