What do you all think about this open-source approach?

lol yes, that reworked fork of Mambo. I was using mambo till the devs split and made joomla and so I moved to joomla.

Joomla and Drupal are the more popular CMS's I hear about, so hence I wanted to know what was newer. Never heard of ModX. Looks good tho.

Hear hear. I for one aspire to become old and stodgy myself.

Joomla? You mean that reworked fork of Mambo? It's old and stable too. And being an older and stable technology is a "good thing", not a complaint.

Anyway, technologically speaking I think ModX 2 (the Revolution version currently in beta) is much more cutting-edge than any other cms app I've looked at. The 1.x versions are interesting too.

drupal is an old established and very popular php-based cms. I set up a testing drupal site on IIS/windows some years ago and played with it for a while. I think it's a decent choice for a high-traffic site like http://www.whitehouse.gov but it's far from the "This is state-of-the-art technology and the government is a participant in it." quote taken from the article. Drupal is old, stodgy, and reliable technology, just what you want on a busy site.

I like it that the administration is giving a nice public shout-out to open-source applications.
