Hey Everyone,

I am creating a web site (religious oriented). I want to set it up to where folks can donate, but I would really like them to subscribe because it seems to me that if people have the option to donate or not chances are they won't donate but will continue using the services.

Is my assessment correct on this or are folks more generous than I suppose?

Perhaps I can supply some basic features at the donate level and then have subscribe for enhanced features which are the features that would be eating up bandwidth and disk space anyway.

I plan on selling advertising also.

What is the most appropriate mix? I am unsure since I have never done this. I don't want to be kicking myself down the road for not starting out right the first time.

Also, this would be a full-time revenue maker for me as I need to stay home with our new twins. I'm trying to get more into the managing of simple, collective accounts rather than continuing into the mass marketing of web design and just consider web design jobs as they come along instead of being dependent upon them.

Thanks everyone!

Cheers,

Etymon

Do not force anyone to donate imo :) Just make sure they understand why donation is important or so.

Thanks Jez. That is what I was wondering about.

Depends what you have to offer, I think it's always good to reward people for donating/subscribing with ad free etc, if you can make all the key areas subscription only without hurting your userbase even better.

I forget where it was I read it but a while back I remember reading an article on a survey that showed subscription to be far more effective than donations simply because there was a set price and a reason to do it, whereas if they could just 'donate' they wouldn't do it because they didn't know how much to donate etc. So if you're considering it it does seem to have a benefit over simple donations (unless someones likely to donate a fortune )
