We went to the doctor's for a sonogram today trying to find if we are having a boy or a girl. My son, of course, wants a brother, and my daughter, naturally, wants a sister. Me, well, I kid with my wife that we should have twins ... from which I rightfully get the evil stare of pain and horror!

So, there we are about an hour early watching folks come and go. Then just before we are called in we see a young couple come out. They were holding a curled set of photograph paper showing their beautiful baby in the womb. I asked, "What are you all having?". They replied, "A boy!".

My wife and I both looked at each other and we must have been thinking the same thing (how that they looked like such a young couple). So, I blurt out, "Is this your first?". I was thinking that I would encourage them along the way just in case they were having doubts.

The father answers back with a rather large, proud smile, "No. This is our fifth child!" I thought to myself, "Wow! He doesn't look a shade over 24." Meanwhile, my wife, Holly, fleetingly thought to herself, "Five. Gee, I'd like to have a large family too."

Well, out they came and into the office we went. After Holly went through the regular checking procedures we waited for the doctor to come in and fire up the sonogram. While the machine was warming up the doctor took out her measure tape, asked my wife when the baby is due, and started taking measurements.

The doctor asked my wife again when she thought she is due, and Holly told her. Then the doctor looked at me then again at her tape, and then she gave me this "Nancy Drew" kind of look and said "Hmmm?"

By this time I was tad worried. Holly's vitals all checked out near perfect, and this pregnancy has been her best ever.

On with the sonogram the doctor went. I had a bird's eye view. The kids had not ever seen a sonogram, so they didn't know what they were looking at.

I saw the image and didn't say anything figuring the doctor could talk just fine for herself. Truthfully, I really could not say for sure what I saw since I am not a professional but rather just a father twice.

So, the doctor starts talking calmly to my wife. She says, "Well, I see two, but I am looking for the third." By that time, my wife gasped, "What?". "Yes." She says. "Ma'am, you're going to have triplets!" I had seen them right along with the doctor but wanted the doctor to announce the surprise.

My wife's emotions ran the spectrum. She has finally settled on being overjoyed! I was a little worried at first, but I also was mostly elated! That's a lot of why I did not say anything at all. My mouth was gaping wide open in awe! Life is amazing!

What is so amazing is that we had stopped trying many years ago after our second child because we found that both children were diagnosed with Autism to nearly the most severest degree. We changed our mindsets, our diet, even our location for the city to the country, and we buckled down and got serious combating Autism. We won!

When we found we were pregnant again we were not too awfully phased with the threat of Autism because we know how to be victorious despite it. Needless to say, we are both very proud parents of all of our kids. They are truly wonderful!

Now, we have already had questions about how we accomplished triplets. My wife and are very health conscience. She is moreso than I am, in that, I will take Tylenol or whatever for a headache but you'd have to chop off her leg at the thigh for her to even consider it. So, she has never had any kind birth anything either to prevent or to promote pregnancy.

It seems that since Holly is over 30 and twins do run in her family and this is the skipped generation (they say twins occur every other generation) that these things favored the occurrence of triplets.

The kids are all in their own sacs, so we don't have to worry about the umbilical chords choking anyone nor do we have to worry about them growing together like Siamese twins.

We've got less than four months now to convert a two bedroom house into something larger. Wow! What a load of exciting work that is ahead of us!

We asked what we are having and with the equipment she had she said that she knew one is a boy, but the others she couldn't get close enough to figure out. Next week I suppose we will being going to a specialist to get better imagery.

I'll try to take some pictures and post them here so you all can see what twins look like. We don't have an image of the triplets' heads in one image, but maybe in the next set of images we get it could happen like that.

Catch you all later,

Etymon

Awh! Yes! I am enjoying all of it. But I am a family kind of guy! I was the youngest of 4 brothers. Perhaps that's why ... since I never got a baby brother or baby sister. I must admit that I am a little intimidated about having three babies all at once to care for. Our two older children are raring (spelling?) to help out all they can. They are at prefect ages where they both have the interest, the kindness, and the strength to help out.

Thanks Marcel!!

Wow man, that's awesome!!! Triplets, does that classify for shouting "Stiiiiirike" ? 2 + 3 certainly classifies as a "Spare".

I think it'll be though for your wife carrying around three of them at once, so I hope all will continue to be ok with her and the babies.
Good luck, and enjoy every minute of the pregnancy!

OK, I have some head shots for you. The doctor snapped these pics when she was measuring the size of the heads to determine the due dates. I wish she could have gotten all three into one shot. Maybe the next time we go that can happen.

Since this is a high risk pregnancy we're going to have higher resolution imaging done very soon. The doctor mentioned that her colleagues (partner doctors in another, much larger city) may use a machine that does 3-D imaging.

Here is a shot of babies one and two:

Thanks Huw! I was floundering for a scapegoat!

Well, Anon, you should probably wait until after the babies get here for sending the NoDoz. Meanwhile, I'll try to build up my long-haul stamina and then use NoDoz to fall back on when I just can't handle it anymore! LOL! ... hehe ... I think Carefree said he has some free time to come over and help while I am asleep!

congratulations Etymon, you can tell your wife that it is my fault, we don't have kids and don't have plans for any, so you obviously have our share as well as yours , good luck, and I hope everything goes well with the pregnancy, obviously it goes without saying to keep us upto date.

Thanks Rui!

And here I was prodding you about hitting 25K. I mean how rare is that here at Snitz? You know! LOL!

Yeah, my wife keeps telling me that it's my fault! haha ... Twins run on her side, so I am getting out of this scott free ... of course, you know I will be right there changing the diapers and doing all of the night time feedings and what not. I really get into babies, kids, youth ... the whole family actually!
