Hi
We have a website which has been hosted with Fasthosts for the past few years with no problems, it is a Snitz MYSQL database driven forum. However, over the past couple of days we cannot connect to it. The error message given is as follows:
[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]User **** already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections.

I have been advised by our the host that "shared hosting platform customers database users can only have a maximum of 20 simultaneous connections to the database. Your scripts are exceeding this limit, therefore you will need to ensure that the connections are correctly being closed to resolve the issue.."

Is there something we can do with the script to ensure the connections are correctly being closed?

Please advise
Many thanks

Hi Doug, nothing was changed by the host company. I upgraded to the new v3.4.07 files last night. The site came back on again this morning only to go offline again a few hours later. Same 'max_user_connections' problem.
I did notice in the admin section of my host that the MySql database is at 100% capacity (even though you can still post etc 'when' the Forum is online), could that be the reason its at 'max_user_connections' most of the time?

Did your hosting company change anything? My sometimes flakey memory bank says there is some setting in mysql about re-using vs closing connections. Just a wild guess about somewhere to look. There are lots of options you can give the odbc driver, maybe there's some option about connections. Somewhere on the mysql site there is documentation for the odbc driver.

If the mods are not closing the connections properly, there would be no error to show you, expect that you have this problem with your host.
What mods do you have installed?

Although it would be good to upgrade to the latest version, hold off on that, so we can see if we can fix your current issue. Fixing this issue might be an easier step than upgrading to 3.4.07.

Hi Davio, thanks for your swift reply. The site is being used for forum data only, I'll try and update to latest version to see if that helps. We have a couple of mods installed but they've never caused any issues before. Our version is v3.4.06

Connections are being closed in the snitz forum code. Are you using the latest version?
Are you using any mods?

Also, it sounds like you are using the database not only for your forum data, but for your website as well. Are your connections for the rest of your site closing properly as well? Could check that.
