I've read conflicting information about whether it's possible to load IIS onto Windows 7 Home.

Does anyone know any information about it or has tried it?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I am aware it was just XP Home that IIS could not (officially) be installed on. It looks like it can be installed on Vista and Windows 7 Home versions.

If you buy Windows 7 in the EU before 31/12/2009 you get it at "upgrade" prices so the difference between Home & Professional may not be that much. Upgrade pricing should always be available in the US.

The hacks were ridiculous with XP Home. I bought XP Pro and haven't looked back. But I'd like to avoid the same problem with Windows 7.

I presume Technet is correct, but wanted to confirm with others because of the conflicting information.

It's a good point that IIS could be installed on Vista Home.

You could install IIS on Vista Home. I think it was XP Home you couldn't officially install it on but there were hacks that allowed you to.

That's the page that has the conflicting information:

quote:

So you must have the Proffessional edition or the Ultimate edition of Windows 7 installed on your computer for installing the IIS Webserver

Then in the comments someone said:
quote:

According to Microsoft Technet, you can install IIS on Windows 7 home editions:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731911.aspx

So, is the Microsoft Technet site correct?
