Posted - 11 February 2003 : 17:52:52 Out of the tens of thousands of Snitz Users I actually think those that apply the Avatar Mod are probably the minority.
Not all mod writers would actually want the code in the base Snitz simply becuase they then effectively loose control of their own mod code, once its in base code the update and maintenance of it becomes the responsibility of the Dev team then instead of the original author which makes releasing newer versions of the mod code a little more complex.
Theres pleanty of pre modded forums available though so your not stuck if you don't want to learn ASP, you just grab SH's, Crashs or Huw's portal versions and away you go.< |

Posted - 11 February 2003 : 10:38:55 Not everyone who uses forums wither want to or know how to program in ASP. As for implementing them into the baseline code, isn't it as easy as applying the mod to a base line installation?
I wounder what percentage of snitz users apply the Avatar mod?
As for:
What fun would it be if all the Mods were already added to the base code ?
There will always be mod's for projects like this, why not add the popular Mods into the base line as a reward to those who spend ages and ages developing the mods.
It's just my 2 pence,

Posted - 10 February 2003 : 10:22:37 Personally, I'm not a huge fan of either, especially private messaging. I find avatars can be annoying, especially without control over the content of them (flashing, obscene, huge size, etc). I have no need for them, so see no need to put them in. If they're there, fine but I don't miss them if they're gone.< |

Posted - 10 February 2003 : 09:50:35 Plus how do you decide what to include in the base code? You say the avatar mod is essential, someone else may say that private messaging is a must, and so on, and so forth. Better to keep the base code as clean as possible and let everyone customise it to their own needs - that's what makes this product so great.

Posted - 10 February 2003 : 09:03:09 What fun would it be if all the Mods were already added to the base code ? Remember Snitz is as much about helping and teaching people ASP as it is a functional forum. Personally I think leaving some things out doesn't hurt at all.< |

Posted - 10 February 2003 : 08:45:00 why not implement it and have an On/Off option?
What do people think to my suggestion then?< |

I personally find that most commercial packages and php forums have avatars built in. I have put the avatar mod on my forums... not a lot of changes, why not implement it and have an On/Off option?

It is not on this site and this forum works fine
Why add it to the base code when alot of users may not need/want it? It's not to hard to add to your own forum.< |
