Has anyone ever did some sort of mod for a horizontal menu/horizontal nav bar that could just about go all the way across the top part of your header and have about three rows? I have about 30 items in my menu and everything is so close together and so small. I also have a site logo, avatar and chat logo that could probably all go on one line just above the menu; I suppose.

I have this in my inc_site_header.asp and I'm wondering, would it be less likely to cause a problem if it was in my inc_header.asp or would that make any difference?
I've had 5-6 members complain now. Two of them said they had to use the "Compatibility Mode" for the menu to work.
It seems to be a problem for those using IE 10.

Ohhh, I hadn't even thought of it possibly being a Javascript issue! And you're right, that should have been my first thought.

The first thought would go to Javascript being disabled in their browsers or the browsers not supporting the Javascript being used for the menus. Best is to ask them what browsers and versions are they using. |

I've implemented this menu bar and I must say, it looks great!
However; I have had two members tell me that none of the little drop-down menus work for them. Both use Windows. One said she had Windows 7 but the other hasn't said what version of Windows she has.
Any idea as to what would cause this?
With the site only having been open for three days, it may be that there are others who will have this problem and they just haven't been to the new site yet.

I agree, using the "Site Integration MOD" does sound like it might be the easiest route to go with a nav.
Carefree said he would help implement the script for me so I'll have to see if it can be used with the header of the "Site Integration MOD." He always seems to go the most logical route with things so if it won't work with the "Site Integration MOD," I'm sure he'll have his reasons.

Some of the prefab menu code amount to "just put this code here and it runs" - plug-n-run.
Jesus Joshua's website used to have a more intricate menu system, and a little more to it, but a lot of users had problems with precisely using the mouse to get from the menu to the sub-menu, etc. This is a common problem in most of the menu code I've seen floating around (I'm sure there are others that don't have that problem, just haven't tried them myself).
Depending on how intricate your menus were, that may not be a problem. One level of drop-downs, under some clear categories shouldn't be that bad.
For both sites, I used the Site Integration MOD to set up the header and sidebars, and some careful moving and tinkering with tables etc. to get the forum nav to be a site-wide nav. One of these days I'd love to try and make it simpler to make those sorts of changes. |

Like the first, AnonJr. What do you mean by the "plug-n-run code" phrase?

I'd love to say it was a simple mod, but the current page structure doesn't allow for easy changes to that area of the page. Also, you may want to take a hard look at what's there in the nav and consider some restructuring. A small set of drop-down lists, under a few well thought out categories would be easier to implement, and may help with overall navigation.

There are various javascript menus out there which allow for 2d layers, which look cleaner than a bar with everything listed. You may want to search for one of those and implement it instead. |
