I have used the "Merge Topic Mod" and the "Merge Forum Mod" and both are simply outstanding mods! Kudos to both Davio and SiSL! I often use these mods and the "Split Topic Mod" on a weekly basis and sometimes it's daily.
There's only one thing missing and that would be if these mods were only able to access two databases. That would be PERFECT!
I am having to switch databases and there is Soooo much the members don't want to lose. No doubt, that must be a common issue/problem! If these mods could merge from one database to another, oh wow! Can't you just imagine how awesome that would be!
With the super intelligence it took to create/write these incredible mods, surely that could easily be accomplished by you guys.

Now if there is a free program to download that would accomplish this AND a tutorial, I would most definitely try!
Surely I am not the only one out there who would love a mod like this though. I would think even creating a mod for this would most definitely not be for just anyone to attempt! JMHO
However; I wouldn't have asked if I didn't think there were capable techs/authors around here! You guys never cease to amaze me!

I don't know what you are doing, but anything like this can be easily overcome. If you are changing databases, the rationale for the migration should be simple enough:
1. Get the exact same version of Snitz, with all the mods, etc, running on the new database.
2. Once you are ready to migrate, delete all records from the new database.
3. Migrate the data from the old database to the new one.
The last step is not hard to achieve, with the proper tools. If the original database is SQL Server, Access could be used as the first step, by importing all data from SQL Server to Access. From there, the migration can proceed as any other Access to MySQL migration. There are several tools that can be used for that.
The whole process is much easier if the database structure is similar in both cases. I am sorry, merging or spltting topics between databases doesn't make much sense, IMHO. It's a replacement for the proper way to do things. |
