We have a forum where you can add photos and ask "what plant is this" or "what kind of butterfly is this" and experts will answer.

I want an app where you can take pictures with your smartphone and upload picture and questions to the forum. I don't think the app needs much snitz code, but must be able to write to the MYsql-database at our server and add the image file to the specific folder on our server. And somehow you must log in.

The app must work on both Android and Iphone. Is this possible?
There is a tool called Titanium (http://www.appcelerator.com/). Maybe that could be the tool?

Is this possible?

We did make a mobile app for both android and iphone. It takes a picture (like instagram) and post the image and a question to the forum. But it was made in flex, and there is no flex any more. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.computas.biolog

Thanks Rui, if we can solve the file upload problem from the smartphones and make a nice mobil webpage, it would help a lot. I will ask someone to check if it works on iphones. It's not a problem from Safari on ordinary Mac's.

My teenager daughter talks about an App called Instagram for IPhone. They take pictures directly from the app and post it to a blog. To have something like that (someday), would be perfect.

Seems that the mobile browsers support for file upload controls varies wildly and it needs to be done differently from what you have now. Surely an interesting problem :).

For the iphone (safari web browser), there seems to be code for the file upload: http://code.google.com/p/iphone-photo-picker/

They think it is cool with an app and a nice widget (and it is). But I agree. Its OK and easier with a special mobil webpage. How do I (or some of you) make that?
Problem is also the popup window for image upload. it doesn't open when i use the forum from my android phone. When I click browse file, to choose a file to upload, nothing happens.

you could do this using a simple web page styled to fit a small screen that did the upload, it does not require an app (or indeed 2 apps if you want to support andriod and Iphone)
