Vimeo uses flv files and allows scalability in the embedding.

Could still do with the tweak for HQ YouTube HQ embedding tutorial and tips

Posted - 02 January 2009 : 09:41:56 Vimeo seems to work on my forum: http://www.gigharborvideos.com/video/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=37
The code was developed by Marcel I think. . .but not positive.

Posted - 02 January 2009 : 05:57:53 There's a development I was unaware of a month ago - YouTube HQ. No, I don't mean HD. HQ is 640x360 MP4 and is way better than normal YTube. Unfortunately YTube embeds default to their standard (rubbish) SD resolution, but the addition of a bit of code make the embed switch to HQ. That must be possible with Snitz too...?
Some nice Ytube HQ here, as well as more info on the embed: http://holgr.com/blog/2008/11/23/testing-youtube-hd-embed/
This what it would look like in your forums. Nice, eh? All it amounts to is adding '&ap=%2526fmt%3D22' to the coding.
And you can switch off the YTube search bar by changing search=1 to search=0
And please please please include Vimeo. They are a film-makers community with some awesome content: http://www.vimeo.com/1516019 This one's clocked up 45k views!

I'm a bit surprised by your comparison with YouTube - the quality is so much better. I don't have the fastest of broadband connections, but there's a hardly any waiting here. So different from only a couple of years ago! And I did say to click 'HD' to switch HD off - once a user clicks that it stays switched off on all subsequent visits to Vimeo, so it's a once only chore.
Anyhows, many thanks for your efforts. Much appreciated. < |

Posted - 18 November 2008 : 16:00:08 2 tell you the true, I'm not that impressed... your link shows more than 50Mb on a Hi-def (HD) and 13Mb in Low-def and Low-def is almost Youtube. it is nice to have a "big video" to see (if we have the broadband for that) but does it worst it. All that time uploading the movie, your first link is 170Mb the HD movie!!!
but I will try to include both Vimeo and ExposureRoom ...

Posted - 18 November 2008 : 14:29:06 Just thought I'd copy n pate in the following examples for the anyone who's curious.
http://vimeo.com/1959421 (click on 'HD' to switch off HD and access the standard definition video, and maybe wait till it finishes downloading for optimum result)
http://exposureroom.com/members/jimorrdpaolcom.aspx/assets/a109b231e83e46b082e972e4d19180b2/ That level of quality from a free hosting service is currently unmatched. < |

Posted - 18 November 2008 : 13:43:12 Excellent! You da man!
I hope you choose to include ExposureRoom too. I've been researching this a lot lately (too much actually!) and they currently offer the best free video encoding/hosting/embedding.
Cheers.< |
