Posted - 13 March 2008 : 16:06:48 Greetings,
I have a forum with several Forums with Auth Type Allowed Member List or Allowed Member List (Hidden).
On the Edit Forum Properties page, the list of the Allowed Member List of a forum, can be changed (through post.asp?method=EditForum).
I'm looking for a mod which offers the reverse. Change-ing the access, not from a forumproperties-page, but from an userproperties-page.
I want, that if I choose to edit someones members profile (pop_profile.asp), that the output is also showing all the forums which are using the Allowed Member List (Selectionbox) and the selectionbox is selected of the ones he/she has already access to it.
Only the Admin can change the access to this forums.
I haven't found an existing MOD so far. I hope that the question is clear. Can someone help me?< |

Posted - 20 March 2008 : 13:58:07 Our club is a bikersclub. When someone becomes a paying member of our club, (not thru an online service, but old-fashion snail-mail and paper), I get a request from the new member for full access. Not all members uses the forum.
But I understand that UserMod is the only mod, which could/can do the job. I'll take a second look at the mod.
Thx for the advice !< |

Posted - 20 March 2008 : 04:11:18 How do people go about subscribing to your forum? If you use an online service such as PayPal, you can use their API to send confirmation back to you when someone subscribes and grant them access to the relevant forums automatically. Similarly, if you go with the UserGroups option, you can add the member to the subscribers group automatically.

Posted - 19 March 2008 : 16:23:15 That does help in making a recommendation. While I understand that you want to make as few changes as possible, most of the people who do the kind of work you are describing have used the UserGroup MOD to accomplish it. It just ends up being easier - when they become a paying member, you just need to add them to the new group and they now have access to the 10 additional forums.
A little searching should turn up some topics with more of the particulars of using the MOD this way.< |

Posted - 19 March 2008 : 16:15:12 Some background info:
The forum has 2 kinds of memberships, one is free, the other is a paid membership. When een member has a paid membership, 1 at-the-time, I changes the titel of that member and add him to 10 Allow Member Lists. I have change post.asp, so that the Members with a special Title ar already selected in the Allow Member Lists, when entering the forumproperties-page so that they can be added, using as much of the originel code as possible.
I want to uses the existing code, as much as possible. The usermod-instruction says: Installation of this MOD requires extensive modification to existing code in 14 forum files and the addition of 2 new files, 3 new tables in the database, and 3 new configuration variables.
As said, I want to limit the changes in code to a few files and use at much of the original code as possible with a minimal of work, when adding/changing a members-profile and access.
So, when i change the profile of a user (pop_profile.asp), i want to show all the forums which are using acces through Allow Member List en want so see the forums which the member as access too, selected and have the possibility to change the access.
Hopefully this will give you the nessary backgroundinfo ...

Posted - 15 March 2008 : 10:46:26 Are you going to be granting access to all 10 for each member that gets the privilege? or is this a case-by-case, forum-by-forum thing?
A little more background information might help us figure out a way to get what you want.< |

Posted - 15 March 2008 : 10:42:28 You're not going to get too far if you don't want to change much code and you don't want to change the database. What you are asking calls for one, the other, or both.< |

Posted - 15 March 2008 : 09:58:46 I looked at UserGroups MOD. I don't want to change to much code and also no databasechange.
To explain it some more. If you have, say, 10 forums and a new member comes along. I don't want to visted 10 forumproperties-pages. I want one page (user profile), where i can select every forum, the member is allowed to access.
Yes, the UserGroups MOD can be used, but is to big for mine purpose.< |

Posted - 13 March 2008 : 17:22:19 Off-hand I think the UserGroups MOD might be a step in the right direction. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for though.
If you do look at the UserGroups MOD, keep in mind that the download hasn't been updated with all the fixes in the thread that has the download link...< |
