This is something I have seen in the past, as in years ago,
so way before the VOIP hype.
It was actually an ezboard forum which had this as a mod.

Does anybody know of any way/mod that would allow forum members
to record their voice online, which audio file would then be
stored in a folder with the link generated by name and date?

I was thinking about Flash, but haven't found anything about it
yet.

Anybody got any ideas?

Greets & thanks,

Dominic

No, sorry, never found a solution for it. I know it can be done in Flash with some heavy scripting
and I had more projects to work on so I never really got into how to do it.

Hi
I'm looking for a simple way to upload music-files in the topics, just like pictures.
Your way by online recording it seems a bit better.
Did you find a solution?

So far I have found this:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111005

The mention odeo.com which has an online voice recorder which saves recorded sounds as flv files:
http://media.odeo.com//files/0/4/7/568047.flv

Still not really what I'm looking for, but it's a start...

Thank you all for the feedback.
The purpose is for people to be able online to record 1 minute of audio, which then will be saved as either Flash (if I find a solution in Flash) or mp3/wma.
I definitely plan on converting it as much as possible, eventhough I have a storage space of 1000 GB, it doesn't mean I want to use it all (hence the 1 minute of recording time).

I'm going to check if I can find a cache for the forum I have seen this on years ago, maybe
I can find a link to the developers, or at least a phrase of how this is called and work from
there.

Greets & thanks,

Dominic

i wonder if there is any forum software for blind people that has been made in this way? although the may use a text to speech converter instead.<

Dominic,

I don't know how exactly to do this, but you may want to take in to account the amount of disk space this may eat up, unless you are going to compress the audio files.

If you want users to just be able to add an audio link in their profile, then something like a picture in profile MOD might work and then tweak it to your own requirements, just have the member record some audio then upload it to their profile and make it click-able, I suppose you could have it auto-play if you open someones profile, but not sure how you would do that. Then you may have to have the audio files moderated before going live in case anyone records anything unsavory.....

Not sure if my comments will help at all, and I would also be interested in knowing how you get on.<
