Has anybody implemented the following scenario:

1. Users must register/login in order to read the forum.
2. The search engines (Google, Inktomi, MSNSearch) are allowed to access and index the forum (I can disable caching).

What I'm trying to do is allow people to find my forum via the search engines, but force them to register in order to read the forum.

I know how to do it using User Agent strings and IP addresses, but I was wondering if somebody already did something like this. :)

Thanks.<

How did you do this?<

Not if I have NOARCHIVE set in the meta tags.

I've implemented the solution by allowing the search engines through based on their IP blocks.<

Wouldn't they just read the cached version on the search engine ?

But this has been discussed before to varying degrees, a few searches (and tick the archive box) may help you out.<
