I would like to add a way in which a new member on our boards will be restricted from being able to see the contact information that another member has posted in their profile (contact by email, yahoo, msn, icq, etc). We want to do this to prevent people from scanning our members database immediately after joining and start soliciting other members. The main problem we are having are people playing the "hook up" game on our site by emailing or sending an im to all the ladies on the site. To prevent this, we want to restrict new users. We thought we could do this using the post rankings (which would have been ideal) so that a member has to actually participate on the boards for sometime before they can just casually start thumbing through our members contact info.

Any ideas? I'm currently considering adding a new member level as another thread mentions how to do, but not sure if that can be used in an if/then statement in the display mode of pop_profile.asp to determine if the person viewing the profile is a member of the new level or not. Also, if it relied on the post ranking, then they would automatically gain priviledge to contact info upon changing post rank from "newbie" to "regular user" as we have them labeled on our site.

I've implemented the sponsor level mod and this has helped for now. I would like to find a way to do this based upon the amount of time the member has been a member and/or post ranking. The sponsor level mod requires us to "upgrade" our members manually, which is not a problem at the moment, but as the site grows, I would like to automate this somehow. When I get some time, I'll take a deeper look into it.<

Adding a new member level will help, its what I did. I used the Sponsoring Members Mod and added a gold members section so only gold members can actually view other members profiles, you can of course customize it to how you want though once you know which member levels are which.

You could also probably do it based on the number of posts a member has, if they have a certain amount of posts then show the contact details, or possibly even from so many days when they joined, if they have been a member for example 2 weeks then show contact details, just a few suggestions.<
