We use our Snitz forum with Calendar Event mod to schedule jobs we need to do on a certain date/time.

I've taken a look via search but cant see any sort of reminder mod out there.. We want to be able to add reminders like you do with the file attachment mod - ie instead of attaching an uploaded file it updates a table with date/time info and puts an 'icon' in the reply it is added to (like the file attachment mod does) . If a reminder become due or past, next time you login it pops up a reminder or give a list somewhere...

Would it be easy to do?

A possible addon to it would be to pump these reminders to a mobile phone via SMS... that way we can be notified we are missing a scheduled job out in the field<

Any luck or thoughts anyone? StephenD?

I might have to look at how the events mod is coded and 'hopefully' make something up.. I'm dont know ASP coding all that well but I'd love to have a reminders mod!

Sorry StephenD, didnt see your reply till just now!

The person taking inbound calls from the customers keys the details into our forum as an event post. We then communicate to road tech (be it via phone or manually typing an SMS to them) of the new job. This is not really the issue tho as this works fine.

BTW, we use the Event Calendar mod to post events. We do not use the standard post. This allows us to post our jobs in the future etc.

The REAL issue is we forget we need to be onsite at a client's business at, lets say 2pm tomorrow. When we initially take the call from the customer the day before we key in the event post for the day in question and the event topic's title is like this;

'BAL - Company Name (2-4pm, Call)'

, where BAL is location (ie town name)
, where Company Name is the name of the client
, where (2-4pm, Call) is the time organised to go onsite and 'Call' is call before arrival

It works pretty well for us doing it this way.

However, on the day of this job it might be approaching 2pm and we've forgotten this scheduled job or still stuck at another clients place. I would love to be able to have a special screen (like in the active topics refresh by 1min interval screen) that the person taking the inbound calls to show reminders that we are missing a job. This will allow us to contact the road tech and give feedback to the client about rescheduling etc. Currently we do miss jobs and we dont call the client - which is bad

To answer your question about how we close the job off is we move the job from the the 'job' forum to the 'job-completed' forum...

To give you a better idea how we have laid this out, our job system structure looks like this;

ONLINE JOB SYSTEM (<--- catagory)
-- JOBS (forum holding active jobs)
-- JOBS-COMPLETED (forum holding completed jobs, ready for invoicing)
-- JOBS-INVOICED (forum holding invoiced jobs)

I have tweaked the event calendars mod to not show events when they have been moved into the completed and invoiced areas since if they're done, they're done! - no need for our techs to see these anymore)

The accounts lady keys the jobs that are sitting in the Jobs-Completed section into the finanacial software and then moves the job to 'Jobs-Invoiced'.

Note: The ability to SMS these reminders is icing on the cake and we dont need to look at this just yet.

goorootech can you post some more background information on this like ..

Your road techs - they receive the original job notification by way of .. new posted event in their own particular forum or client's unique forum? Do they acknowledge the job by posting a reply with ETA etc?

How do they close off the job .. the same way?

I'm wondering if it might make it easier for you to edit the original topic description and use a code prefix for when the job is closed eg.

H&R Block Bakers Hill 12555

becomes

CSD H&R Block Bakers Hill 12555 with CSD for Closed.

Then you could do some SQL to retrieve all the Events where 'CSD' is absent for todays date and display them in a table on a single page or pump them to an RSS feed or SMS service.

Do you have an 'Allocated to Member' field? Would make it easier to seperate out the jobs for the feeds too.

Hope this helps...<
