Posted - 28 August 2005 : 14:59:44 I've implemented anonymous posting today on oxle, so the natural next step would be the feature to be able to banning certain IP addresses once abusing the anonymous access.
On SnitzBitz there are two mods available, the IPGate by GPCTexas, and the IB Ban mod by Davio/ouija. Can anyone advise me which one to use for my board ? (performance/feature/security wise?)
Thank you very much in advance.< |

Both mods do support what you want to do. Just depend on the level that you want to attack the probs.< |

Posted - 01 September 2005 : 17:43:30 IPGate does banning also. I have used it since 2.1 and it works very well. You can ip ban a single ip, range, etc. You can ban usernames and have it put a cookie on their machine so if they try to register again on a dynamic ip you can catch them. You can create a watch for ips/users so it will log what they do. You can also log everything if you want. You can ban users from certain pages, etc.
It works really well. If you log everything it can cuase the log page for ipgate it to time out. But GPCTexas just added paginated logs pages so it should time out anymore. I just wouldn't recommend logging everything for a long time on a busy site. I would definitely make your database get pretty big fast.
