Well, it's been on the back burner for quite some time, but I've decided to tidy up and release v1.0 of my Snitz portal to the public. I still expect to find a few bugs, but the feature list is complete for now. I'll give it some time before I start adding things in, since I want to be able to give people the opportunity to test and use the portal.

Here is a list of the MODs installed:
 • tag
 • Active Users
 • Automatic Image / Avatar Resizing
 • Avatars
 • Edit Time Limit MOD
 • Email once for subscription
 • Email Spam prevention
 • Events Calendar
 • Google Maps MOD (with changes to allow users to enter their own lat/long)
 • Google Sitemaps MOD
 • Limit Quick Paging
 • Mark Topic As Unread
 • Password Reset
 • PM MOD
 • Poll MOD
 • Profile Views
 • RSS Feeds
 • Smile Manager Plus
 • Snitz Stats
 • Split Topic MOD
 • Subforums
 • UserGroups MOD

I've tested this fairly heavily on Access and MySQL, but don't have access to a SQL Server DB, so any help there will be appreciated.

So, without further adieu, here is the download link.
Eternal Second Snitz Portal v1.0

Edit (4-8-07): Link removed due to bug fixes. Go here for latest information.<

daveo, since we've got the topics over at the Eternal Second forums for bug reports, I'd like to try and keep this thread reserved for general comments about the forum release overall.

That said, I've updated the original post with an update. One bug and fix found so far, with another possible one in the works.<

I found the problem. I needed to use your config.asp instead of mine. Added my changes and it is working. I will continue testing for the next few days. Also, I want to add front page news and googie spell to it. So it does work with SQL Server 2005 as long as you use the included config.asp.

I do get this error
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e37'

Invalid object name 'FORUM_CUSTOM_POLICY'.

/admin_policy.asp, line 68

So far I have not found any other problems, but will keep looking.<

Thanks, Anon. I couldn't have said it better.

daveo, I've responded to your post over at the ES site.<

Basically, he built a pre-modded XHTML-compliant version of Snitz. He changed the code base to be XHTML compliant, and then added the listed MODs (making sure the whole stayed compliant).

Edit: Keeping it brief...<

muzishun...

For us 'newbs', could you/would you give a brief description of what this is? I see the list in your initial post, but is this a MOD? 'Portal' to me usually denotes entrance. I am embarrassed to say I don't know what this is.

I know you're busy... if you get time.

Thank you.

I have installed it with a copy of my database and run the mods setup. The only error I get is for a column that did not exist, but none of the mod admins seem to work. I am using SQL Server 2005.

I also get the error
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e37'

Invalid object name 'FORUM_CUSTOM_POLICY'.

/admin_policy.asp, line 68

I also get this error when posting a reply

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0009'

Subscript out of range: 'rR_DATE'

/topic.asp, line 781

The zip file has been updated. The only changes are admin_policy.asp and inc_policy.asp.

BTW, I'd like to try and keep this thread fairly clear of bug reports and feature requests. Feel free to post over at the support link in my sig for those.

I'm glad people are liking this (or the concept, at least) so far. Good to know the work I put into it wasn't in vain. <

setup.asp is completely unchanged, so it shouldn't affect your other forum. It's just like installing a second fresh Snitz on your site.

The site integration MOD is something I was certainly thinking about adding in. It'll probably come in a later version. There are several different things I still want to add in, but I thought it would be better to start getting bugs out now rather than some undetermined time down the road.<
texanman Posted - 04 April 2007 : 21:40:41
Does the setup.asp override the existing forum even if a separate database and a separate forum folder are used? This seems to be the case! Can you tell me what this code does please?
Thank You :-)<

Cool. I'll have to play around with it a little and see how hard its going to be to get my SB2 stuff to work with it.... though it does seem most of its already in there. <

Looks great the only thing I really see it missing is the site integration mod. Or at least I didn't notice that one but to be honest it was late and I don't remember exactly now. But looks great.<

Yeah, this is the one. The whole thing should be valid CSS/XHTML 1.0 Strict. If you find any pages that aren't, the mistake is on your end ( j/k). As for the admin_policy.asp file, that is indeed missing... very odd. I'll get that fixed and repost a new zip file tonight. As I (think I) said before, this project actually sat on the back burner for awhile, but I went back and fixed up everything I could find the past couple days and finalized it so I could get something out there for public use.<
AnonJr Posted - 04 April 2007 : 12:52:53
Is this the CSS'd/XHTML version you were working on earlier?<
JJenson Posted - 04 April 2007 : 09:13:16
Everything is looking really good. But when clicking on the custom policy link in the admin options I get the page cannot be found went to look for the page in the download and it doesn't exist: admin_policy.asp<
JJenson Posted - 04 April 2007 : 09:03:22
Yeah that was it not reading very carefully as I was half asleep. Saw it and all works well now. Was going to just goto the mod setup page but for some reason I just kept looking for a file I couldn't see Looks good will report anything I see with the MSSQL database <
