The "5-in-1 Snitz Common Expansion Pack" is a compilation of five popular mods for Snitz 3.4.06 which are as follow:
1) Site Integration
2) Header Cell
3) Proder's File Attachment
4) Email All Users
5) Private Messages

Only the user's config.asp file connection string needs to be manually coded.
All other files have the modifications already made to them and can simply be uploaded.
The expansion pack has been tested on a MySql database but not Access or MSSQL.

The Expansion Pack is a step-by-step process.
The first mod is in it's own individual folder #1
The second mod is in it's own folder, the third in it's own folder, etc.

The installation process is sequential - meaning that there is no pick-and-choose.
The last mod will contain files with previous modifications already installed in it.

The installation process is meant to be sequential so that the beginner can install, test and observe how each mod behaves before moving on to installing the next mod.
If a problem is encountered it will be easier to reverse or trouble shoot.

The "5-in-1 Snitz Common Expansion Pack" is located on www.snitzbitz.com<

If this is the first modification that you make and you want to simply replace the "config.asp" file with the one provided, then yes, you would have to change the connection string. The files provided with each mod (if they exist in the previous mods) include all of the changes for the new mod and the previous ones.

Thus, to install all five modifications, you should simply copy all the files from the first mod to the appropriate directories (overwriting wherever they exist) and run the database (dbs*) file. Then copy all the files from the second (overwriting wherever they exist) and run the database (dbs*) file, etc.

When you have finished copying the last of the five mods' files and have run the last database (dbs*) file, then edit your "config.asp" connection string and you should be done.<

So it looks like there are config.asp files in each of the first 3 mods. I'm assuming that each builds on the previous one, so the connection string needs to be added in each of the files, correct? Also, the #2 header cell mod instructions (per readme file) shows changing code in 2 other files as well as the config file...is this just if you are installing it by itself? Thanks again.<

Since the 5n1 pack also includes private messaging, I would recommend replacing your existing changed files with the originals before beginning installation of the 5n1 pack. The instructions specify that the mods made by the 5n1 pack should be installed in order; thus the latter mods probably refer to line numbers already changed by the earlier mods.<

Hello all. I just recently found out about the Snitz Forum software and have created a forum. I am very much a novice when it comes to ASP and programming, but I quickly added a Private Messaging mod and then found out about the "5-in-1 Snitz Common Expansion Pack." To accomplish that PM mod, I had to edit several files and aded quite a bit of code. The instructions of this MOD say that you only need to edit the CONFIG.asp file. So my question is can I install this 5-in-1 in addition to what I've already done or will this screw stuff up? I emailed the originator of the 5-1 mod, but it got bounced and don't know how else to find out about accomplishing this. The good thing is my forum is brand new so if something does get a little wacky for a while, that's okay as long as I can get it back up fairly quick. FYI, I am running on a MS SQL server. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.<

I have it on my MSSQL and it works great! Never had a problem. Anyone want to see it, log onto www.lacledeforum.com<

Hi. There was a post about two weeks ago with a question about running it under MSSQL and it seems that it does indeed work.

The most complex mod in the pack is the Proeder's mod.
And the person running it under MSSQL had Prodder's mod installed.
So I would guess that running the dbs file works the same for MS SQL as it does mySQL.

Just be sure to make a back up copy of each file on the server before uploading its modified replacement. And remember that your config file has to have it's connection string changed for your particular server.

And a comment back here to let us know how it went would be appreciated.

I'm looking to upgrade to latest version of snitz with an MS SQL database and I'd prefer to use this MOD instead of manually doing them individually.

Has anyone got this expansion pack running on MSSQL?

**fingers crossed** <

Yes I think that is very much needed.
If you want to upload it to Snitzbitz, then the rest of us could experiment with it. I'd like to try it.

The "5-in-1 Snitz Common Expansion Pack" is just one tree with add-on branches.
One more tree right next to it would be welcome.
Lets see what you got. . .

Pan I don't know if you are interested but I have a base install I use that has: Site Integration, Poll Mod, Atomic BGColors Mod, Recipe Mod, Announcements Mod, and Photo Album. I actually lump them all together in the sense that all you have to do it upload the whole forum wit dbs files only have the original snitz inc_func_common.asp and inc_header.asp on the initial upload. Then I run all the dbs mods the after that is done all I do it upload the modded inc_func_common.asp and inc_header.asp and run setup and all works.

Not sure if you looked at something like that but just thought I would share how I do a pre modded forum of mine for a fresh install. Like I said not sure if you wanted to hear that route just thought I would mention it in case you hadn't thought of it. BUt I am sure there are even better ways then I do it. <

I think we're on the same page.
You're correct. If the user wanted only mods 1,4 & 5 then they would be stuck with installing mods #2 & #3 in order to be safe with #5.

Part two of your question:
Yes. . .but you could install the Event Calendar mod and then upload your 6-in-1 pack to Snitzbitz and make it available to everyone.

Or you could take the 5-in-1 Pack, install mods #1 & #2 and then install the Event Calendar mod.
Its like a tree where one can pick which branch they want to grow.

so let me get this correct... you can add mods 1-5 but it has to be in that specific order, but what if the user only wanted mods 1,4 and 5? this mod pack wouldnt be useful to that specific user.

anyway...so you are taking mods #1 (Site Integration) and installing it, making sure it works, then zipping up the edited/addiional files then you are installing mod #2 (Header Cell) and all modifications from mod #1 is also in mod #2 and so on...so if i was to add to this mod and install the "Event Calendar" mod you would need me to install the previous mods and then give u the files?

would this be correct?<
Panhandler Posted - 05 February 2007 : 13:23:22
That was my first thought.
Many good people built those mods. Those people are credited through out the installation process.
I felt that they should at least have some possibility of recognition for their creations.

Second, the detailed step by step process will allow for someone to install just one or two of the mods (if they choose) and then attempt to install the calendar mod or something else. It allows some flexibility.

Thirdly, a methodical user should know what the Snitz forum does, then learn what each added mod does.

Lastly, you are right. . .mods 1 - 4 could be lumped into one package. I'm not sure that #5 Private Messages could though. . .
You're welcome to try.
The next step is a 6-in-1 Pack. . . anyone willing to add the "Event Calendar" mod to the Pack???<

hi, looks like a nice neewbie helping hand, but y not merge everything together and merge the dbs files.

would this not be easier and less time consuming for a newbie?
