This is an updated (re-written) version of my first one that can be seen here:

http://forum.snitz.com/forum/link.asp?TOPIC_ID=966

Note: To use this mod, you have to have at least 1 Forum in each Category, otherwise when you submit the form, you will get an error.

Here is the file to download: http://www11.ewebcity.com/dssdbs/files/newcatforumsort.zip
(you'll need to right-click the link and choose "Save Target As...")

Alternate download site: http://www1.domaindlx.com/dssdbs/files/newcatforumsort.zip

Screenshot of Admin screen:

If you have my previous mod, and you want to add this one, you'll need to remove the code that you added to post.asp and post_info.asp.

Will it crash if the forums are hidden from the one sorting.

Since this was made to be an Admin only screen, it doesn't check if the forums are hidden or anything like that, just that they exist in the database.

Hi Richard,

I went through both threads, and I'm not sure if I saw anything that explicitly stated compatability between version 1 and version 2 of this mod...

Do I have to remove version 1 of the mod before I update it to version 2. Or can I just make the new changes?

Rob

you shouldn't need to remove version 1 to use version 2.

Richard! Great MOD! I used it with my Access 97 db and it worked great. I only had to manually add the default value to the two added fields. Its been one of the easiest MODs to implement.

One suggestion... Is it possible to add a bit to the code that if no forums exist in a category, that it doesn't include that category in the list? I noticed that it gave me fits when I absent-mindedly put a category with no forums in it and tried to run the mod from my admin panel... Just a thought!

Great MOD!

Something could probably be done. I haven't looked at it in a while.

I just make sure to not have Categories with no Forums in it.

Could probably add a check to make sure that a Category has at least 1 forum in it, if not you get a message stating that to use this you must have at least 1 forum in each category to use it.

I'll look at it over the next couple of days... Working on something else at the moment...

Does this mod allow users to sort the topics in each category?

No, this only affects the order of the Categories and Forums on Default.asp and in the Jump To dropdown box. It is only a utility for the Admin, not for users.

Sorry, I meant admins. not users.

I had installed a mod on a previous installation that gave the admin the ability to do this.

Thanks

Hey Richard, this is excellent!

I had added CAT_ORDER a long time ago, but relied upon manual editing for that field. Now having this admin page is great! Plus I never thought about the Forum_Order field. Thank you!!!
