Is there an mod to change a users name, at present i change it manually in the database but i'm getting more members ask about changing there username.
If there is anyone got the link.
Does it record the old name etc, so people can tell a user name has changed, like you get on ebay.
Thanks in advance.<

The admin can change it. You don't need to go directly into the database to do it.
Click in their profile. You'll see their name it the top left corner. Click on it. You will then need to log in as the admin. From there you will be able to change their username.
As far as the members themselves changing it, I don't know.<

or dont let the users change there names in the first place, it could get annoying and confusing when people keep chaning there usernames, especially if you member base is of the younger generations that think they know it all kinda attitudes, but i suppose you could always modify the "Post History Mod" to track usernames, and even maybe put some validation o nthere so an admin/mod has to approve the new username, this way things wont/cant get outta hand if you get my drift<

A long while back I'd posted a DBS script you can use to change the user's user name. On of the problems you will run into is if you change it, and someone takes the old one, its going to be a bugger if they want it back. All things being equal, I'd recommend that you be very careful with who and for what reasons you change the user name. But that's just me. smile<

One of the forums I used to frequent added an "Alias" field to the user database; that would allow them to change whatever name appeared but their actual user name stayed the same forever.<
