Without leaving the house in the last 3 weeks or so, without eating new foods or trying new laundry detergents (see, I can guess what some will think up.); I woke up today with a rash which didn't exist yesterday. It covers my entire left arm and hand, my scalp, right wrist, and part of my back. Just what I needed, some other screwy ailment.
I've had diarrhea for last 3 weeks and yesterday started vomiting too. Becoming a bit dehydrated and dizzy, can't keep anything down ... and I'm scheduled to make a 5.5 hour trip to the VA hospital on Thursday (stops are several hours apart), so no food/fluid for me starting Wednesday morning until Friday night when we get back. Doesn't that sound like a fun trip?

It spread a LOT this morning, circled my waist, covered groin, buttocks and both hands. Face swelled like a balloon. Went to emergency room and got massive IV doses of steroids, antihistamines, etc. By the time they got the IV started, my throat had already started swelling closed. If I had waited another half hour, would have suffocated. Doctors said it was an allergic reaction to something, unknown substance.

Thanks. The vast majority of them are mostly gone, they left the discoloration of skin behind but I can live with that. Jaw remains swollen but feeling has returned. The lady doctor apparently knows her stuff. Not looking forward to the visit with allergist though.

Hope it gets all better soon. Maybe a bug bite or something?

The allergist tested me for 378 different substances but couldn't find whatever I am allergic to. Allergist said if it was a sting, it would have had to be a large insect (wasp, bee, hornet). I would have felt that, so that was ruled out. His best guess was a combination of chemicals, but almost impossible to stumble on it ... so I now have a prescription for Epinephrine auto-injectors to add to my collection of drugs. These things aren't cheap. 400 USD for a 2-pack. Hope I don't need to buy them very often.

Ouch that sounds very expensive, so hope you don't need too many of them smile

The Epi-Pens should keep my throat from swelling shut; so I don't suffocate before I get emergency care. The allergist said that sometimes one isn't enough, that's why they come in 2 packs. Prednisone (much cheaper) will do the same job, but the pills won't act fast enough .. and for some reason, they don't prescribe the liquid form (maybe because it tastes like a skunk was run over and rotted for six weeks before you put it in your mouth).

Sounds pretty grim, hopefully you will just be carrying them around and not need them.

Yeah, but they expire rapidly; so even if I don't use them, still have to replace them periodically. Guess it's better to spend a few hundred periodically, then to save the money and suffocate. tongue
