Are you guys getting the Microsoft alert on your task bar saying you can get Windows 10 FREE?
http://www.computerworld.com/article/2906810/microsoft-seeds-windows-7-81-pcs-with-windows-10-upgrade-nag-notices.html

My question is this, after the first year do you then have to purchase it?

I've heard it's FREE for the life of your computer as long as you get it during the first year.

I've also heard it's only FREE for this first year after it's released.
Does anyone have a link explaining this?
Also, are you guys going to wait about doing the upgrade to avoid the hassle of the probable bugs that are always in new versions?
Inquiring minds want to know. . . bigsmile

If you are entitled to the free upgrade and get it during the time window, it's free for life and will update, etc. I've been involved in the technical preview for the life of the project. The "nag" alerts are created by Microsoft so that people will "reserve" their copy in advance. There's LOGIC (for a change) behind this move. Microsoft knows the demand will be large and they're wanting to limit how many downloads are concurrently hitting their servers on the week of Jul 29. They plan to make it available through cloud user sharing sometime in late Aug or early Sep - so online users will actually be providing legal copies, much like a worldwide "pirate" network.

What's your assessment, Carefree? I received my "nag notice" 2 days ago and have opted in. How do you like it?

According to Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-faq

1. It is a free full upgrade to Windows 10, the upgrade is not a 12 month version, but a full forever version
2. You have 12 months from the 29th July 2015 to take advantage of the free upgrade

I would check out the Microsoft FAQ's. The only disappointment is that there is no Media Center in it.

As far as I know, MS has discontinued media center entirely.

I enjoy it a lot more now than the earlier versions. Some of the functionality that now exists was sorely missed early on. Still don't have everything which will be available next month. It's what Windows 8 should have been.

I can't stand Plex as a media server which is it's primary function.
