Can hackers read the info on "images" that are on the Internet?

I mean, don't hackers use programs to scan the Internet for info and those programs don't have the ability to read images?

Well, I was wondering specifically about documents that have been scanned and saved as an image i.e. jpg, bmp, etc.
But that would include graphics and a CAPTCHA image that have something written on them, too, right?

The answer is yes, the script kiddies have software that will read text in images. That's why CAPTCHAs are usually distorted, its to try and thwart their software. Some of them are so bad they can't even be read by human eyes.

Oh wow! I sure didn't realize this! An elderly friend, who is legally blind, has a reading program for her computer. She says it cannot read any writing on graphics so I just assumed no program could.
Thank you!

Yes, she does. Is there a reason for asking, Carefree?

She just recently did an upgrade so that may be the version she now has. I'll ask but she may not know. That would be wonderful if it can read imprint on images!

She will be 83 tomorrow and she was one of the first people to ever use AOL. And, she stuck with it all these years when her eyesight was good. And now that she's legally blind, it would obviously be so difficult for her to see to learn anything else. sad
The problem with using AOL is: JAWS isn't supposed to be compatible with AOL at all. However; for years she's had Windows Vista and JAWS worked fine with AOL. But she just now purchased a new computer with what she thinks is Windows 7 (Her computer guy did the purchasing so it, obviously, could be Windows 8).

With the new Windows came the need to upgrade JAWS. And now, neither she nor the computer guy can get it to read ANYTHING on any website using AOL's browser. And sometimes, it won't read some of her AOL email.

I suggested her computer guy download and install an older version of AOL. If that's not an option with the newer version of Windows, I suggested he download Thunderbird for her to try for her AOL email and then let her try learning a new browser.
She has a genius of an IQ but at age 83 and being legally blind, she's afraid she won't be able to learn all of that.

If any of you have any suggestions, I would be thrilled to pass them on to her. She lives several hours away or else I'd try to physically help her. She's such a precious, precious friend!

Jaws doesn't care which browser you use. It reads icon titles, text, etc.; whatever you point the mouse at. Don't know why there would be a problem with AOL. I installed it for a blind man in Cleveland OH (who also used AOL) about 10 years ago. He had no problem. Of course, that was original XP, not 7/8.
