1. He is 10 years old.
2. He particularly enjoys Visual Basic, Flash (version 5), a program called
Alice, and an older program called
Bryce 3D. He also has Visual Studio. I haven't introduced him just yet to Snitz, but with this used server, after he learns how to set up domains and whatnot, then I will introduce him to Snitz and databases.
I am not fully sure of all his capabilities.
Explanation: There was a Star Trek movie that I saw years ago. The crew encountered a life form called Vyger or something like that. Later, it was revealed that the life form was Voyager the space probe that was sent out from Earth to collect data and return the data back to Earth. The only problem was that Voyager had collected more than just data. It collected objects as well as planets (from what I remember).
My son reminds me of that life form in Star Trek. I turn him lose on a computer program, and he seemingly consumes its entire purpose and then tries to adapt it to other programs and uses.
For instance, he would rather retool the way his MS Office programs work by editing them with Visual Basic than actually using the programs for their intended purpose.
That's where I am getting lost on how to appease his appetite.
When we got this used Dell, he had it networking and print sharing with my computer and his other one in a short while. I had no idea how he did it, so I just sat back and grinned while he churned away with his fingers and mouse making it all happen. I feel like I am getting beat at a Checkers game by a kid! [^]
He currently sends me invites to chat with him at the end of the day via Remote Desktop while he works on other things.
That's where I am at.
