Carefree created an AMAZING "Flash Game Mod" that is simply wonderful! All I have to do is place the necessary files and images in the appropriate directory and then in the Admin Options area type the image URL, the name of the game and the game URL and the games are then automatically placed in alphabetical order with a beautiful game graphic I created. I LOVE IT! Soooo easy!

I would like something similar for movies/YouTube videos. I am using the "Sub Forum MOD" and this is what I did. On the Sub Forum I have a list of the different types of movies, i.e. family, comedy, animated, etc. When a member makes his/her choice and clicks on the appropriate link there on the Sub Forum, I would like for a page to open much like the "Flash Game Mod" does. On the page there would be (three columns) 200 pixels x 200 pixels graphics for each movie, the name of the movie just below the graphic and the movie URL behind the graphic and they would all be in alphabetical order. When clicked on, there would be a pop-up window with the YouTube video in it in which the member could click on the YouTube video to view in full screen mode. I would want, in columns of three, about 15 movies per page due to the 200 pixel x 200 pixel graphics. An added bonus would be. . . something like there is on the Members' page in which the member could, for example, click on the letter "S" for a list of all movies beginning with the letter S. But, that's not a MUST. :)

There are Sooo many movies uploaded to YouTube but most members don't know how to find them to watch. I want to make it easy for them, especailly for those who are ill. Can someone help me?

LOL, if nothing else, you're certainly exuberant.

OK - the video mod is done and it's functioning about as I intended. We'll see how it holds up under normal user testing.

There are only 3 small changes to existing files required.

quote:
This mod creates a video display table in the database and provides an admin page. Videos are added with their links & links to images depicting the video.

A display page based on the flash game mod (with a few refinements) is provided. The number of columns and rows of thumbnails are set in lines 49-50. The links created by the display page are read by the video player page so no additional coding is required.

I stored a copy on SnitzBitz if anyone else is interested.

I made some improvements to this and replaced the file on SnitzBitz. The new version supports MP3s, creates links within the pop_media file to the types defined in the admin page, and lets you configure page rows/columns within the admin page vs editing a file.

MP3s are opened in a smaller window using the same player.

This is Sooo incredible!

I didn't think this mod could be any better but you proved that to be wrong!

It's so easy to work with, too!

Everything should be so simple!

You and your hard work is Sooo very much appreciated, Carefree!!

Experiencing a "trappable error" issue with pages above #5 on Ma's MySQL forum; while it works flawlessly on two systems here. Anyone have an idea?

Is it just with MySQL? What (if anything) is different between the systems?

I'm sure there's a lot different, but nothing is different in the mod code itself - and yes, just with MySQL as far as I know. Nobody else has reported it.

If the problem is just with MySQL it might be worth checking to make sure you're not using any reserved words for column/table headings. Not necessarily the first thought with a trappable error, but it's one of those easy to check things I start looking at when problems only arise in one RDBMS.

Checking for reserved words is actually easy to do since I wrote a utility for that a while back. But if that were the case, none of the first pages would work, either. The trappable errors only begin showing up after page 5. It may have something to do with a dimensioned array (or a variable which needs to be dimensioned); since her pages are set to 20 items per page. If the errors are beginning at page 6, that would be right after the 100 item default array capacity. I'll revisit the code and see if there are any possible dimensioning issues in the pagination routines.
