Hi,

I can see that members password are encrypted in the database. So how can I help a member who has forgotten his password?

Can I de-crypt it somehow?

regards

If you're using email they should be able to reset it themselves (provided the email address in their profile is valid). If not I would update their email address for them to ensure they get their profile back up to date and then let them use the password page to reset it themselves.

You can't decrypt the passwords so you'll need to do the above or just edit their profile as an admin an change the password for them. I prefer making them do it and just updating the email.

you as an admin can also go into this members account and change the password and then email/IM it to the member.

I would suggest chaning there assword to somthing like "pass1234" and then tell them to change it ASAP for security reasons.

Maybe I have done something wrong, for I cannot provoke any help when I myself try to login with a wrong password. I just get the message " Your userid/password is wrong. Please try again"

I may be confused as to what you're trying. Are you tryig to reset a members password or your own? If it's a member are you an administrator of the forum? What is the mlev of the member your're trying to edit? If they're an admin too that may be the issue.

If you're an admin you can do a member search and find their account, then edit the account to change/update their email and or password. When you go to edit them you'll be prompted for your login and password to verify you have permission to edit a member.

If I'm not understanding let me know.

I'm the Admin, and a member calls me telling me, that he has forgotten his password and ask me to tel him what it was. But I can not see his password. In the Access DB I can se it encrypted but not in clear text. I am off cource aware of the danger of telling people details about password.

Yes, I can give him a new password - but I can't see the present one, or can I?

If I'm not understanding let me know.

Excuse me for my bad english

No worries. You cannot decrypt the password to read it. You must reset it.
