I guess this would be on the wishlist.
The areas where it says E-mail Server Address: and Administrator E-mail Address: in the E-mail Server Configuration section ... can I request future consideration that there be a test button nearby kind of like the functionality that MS Outlook uses when setting up a new e-mail account?
For instance, the test button could be used to test against the values entered into those two fields with a javascript alert popping up stating the results.
Obviously, if the default settings are not changed, then the result would be a warning to change the default settings. But if the settings have been changed, then a message stating that a test e-mail message was sent to the e-mail address found in the Administrator E-mail Address: field would be ingenious.
The reason I ask for this functionality is for the sake of new-to-Snitz forum administrators who are setting a board for the first time who may not realize to set these fields first before registering new members. I figure that they may go right to work registering test members as well as actual members without knowing or even realizing that there is an order to the process especially when it comes to e-mail validation and restricting registrations.
LOL! I jumped the gun this morning setting up a new install and forgot to set the E-mail Server Address: and Administrator E-mail Address: fields. I registered a few new members and sat here like a dummy for 15-20 minutes waiting for my MS Outlook to notify me of the e-mail validations (I have Outlook set up to check every minute) - granted, I've been up all night and it is now 8am so my pause served just as well to cut some zzzz's, but nonetheless, I was sitting here twiddling my thumbs looking at the Member Pending page and thinking to myself, "Hmmmm, it says that I approved the registrations???".
Well, come to find out, even though my Members Pending page said that I had approved the members, truthfully, I had not, because I had not determined the E-mail Server Address: field AND, unless I can access the db somehow, I have no way of resending the approval e-mails.
Of course, when I realized this, I said, duh!
When an administrator approves a new registration, if a check could be performed against the E-mail Server Address: and Administrator E-mail Address: fields to compare their actual values against the default values of your.mailserver.com and your.email@yourserver.com and display an alert or disable the functionality with a message if the your.mailserver.com and your.email@yourserver.com values have not been changed yet, that would be really great and I think an encouraging help to new Snitz administrators (it might even help the old folks like me). New Snitz owners may not know to laugh it off with a duh! and a smirk icon. They might even think something is broke. LOL!
Thanks guys,
