If there are any photographers here I would appreciate a little help testing a small application I wrote. I'm trying to get to grips with the Java Mobile Platform (J2ME) at the moment and wrote this little application in order to improve my skills. This has probably been done before and I've only tested it on a Sony W880i, W810i (both MIDP2.0), N95 and a Blackberry Pearl 8110.

Calculating the hyperfocal distance and Depth of Field is useful if you want to work out which objects in your photo will be in focus given distance to the subject, the focal length and aperture. This website explains it pretty well - http://www.dofmaster.com/hyperfocal.html

Download here - http://sites.google.com/site/hypodof/

If you get it working I would be grateful if your could post your phone make and model.

Reply here with any bugs, feature requests, etc.<

And there's no plans to add it. Sun were determined to get Java working on it but Apple won't allow them because they want all apps to be written using XCode (their own product).<

I know.....I'm glad there are numerous good apps in the Apple AppStore, but it's a shame they didn't allow Java.<

Apple's iPhone Development platform is available for free here - http://developer.apple.com/iphone

I've downloaded it a few weeks ago but I haven't had the time to look at it in great detail. I'm going to do this as soon as I can so I'm concentrating on writing Java apps at the moment.

Update: Java is possible on the iPhone but it needs to be jailbroken - http://java4iphone.com/category/all-news/java/<
