Hey everyone,

I am stumped on something my son did to his computer.

My son is just 8 years old and has Autism. He is much more savvy with computers than his daddy (me). He got a hold of Visual Studio (which component I do not know), and he was making a project that he named "Program Maker". Well, as fate would have it, as he was creating his program, he was trying to create a new file extension and somehow changed the nature of all the .exe files on the system. I tried to go to System Restore, and the file would not initiate. It was there. It just did not work. It might as well had been a .txt file. LOL! It is like he neutered the power of the .exe file extension!! It appears that .com and .bat still work.

I thought that I could get another hard drive, make it the C: drive, and then still access his files that way ... and maybe fix the problem. The trouble about fixing the problem is that I have no idea what he did nor how to begin to figure it out.

Any takers out there for helping me understand what the heck is going on?

Thanks everyone,

Etymon

Well, I downloaded the .zip file association I thought he bothered on his PC, extracted it, put it on a Jump drive, snuck into his room with a flashlight while he was sleeping, booted up his PC, inserted the Jump drive, ran the .reg file, and presto it worked smooth as silk!! Wow!! Thanks HuwR!!! That saved me hours of grief! 5/5 stars!!<
