Somebody should expand the Gatekeeper question & two answers into a table of at least 10 questions (with two answers for each). Then use a random number to choose which question to ask for each call (from email, registration, posting).

That way the spammers couldn't get the question & add it to their routine because it would change every time they wanted to do anything.<

There's no point in having 10 questions when one is enough. If you have one good question then it will only be beaten by a human spammer who will defeat a CAPTCHA anyway.

The question doesn't have to be difficult or clever or cryptic. It can be as simple as

Q. What colour is red? A. Red
Q. Type the word TRUST in the antispam box below. A. TRUST
Q. What is 1 plus 3? A. 4 or four
Q What is 2 multiplied by 2? A. 4 or four

And so on.

That's just a poorly written question. A better way to do that would be: 1, 2, 3, x, 5 - What's the missing number (represented by x)?<

All things being equal, I was just being a wise guy. However, there is a sad number of people who have trouble with basic problem solving and sequencing. The more explicit you make the question, the more you're going to exacerbate that problem.<

Assuming we want to be silly, could also use foreign languages and spell out the numeral, upper and lower case lettering, etc. You cannot possibly eliminate all the different ways that people can construe (read "twist") the meaning. The best you can do is apply the KISS ("keep it simple, stupid") principle and attempt to make the answers obvious.<
