We are running Snitz Forums 2000 version 3.4.03 in a corporate environment with a SQL Server database on (I think) Windows 2003 Server with no mods installed. We are using NT AutoLogon, which works great. Since everyone must be logged on to our network to do anything, as soon as they access the forum page for the first time they are added as a new member. And every message they post identifies them as (lastname, firstname, employee number). But now there's a group asking for a forum that people can use like a suggestion box, to make suggestions or ask questions without upper management being able to identify who they are. Since NT AutoLogon doesn't have a LOGOUT button, there's no way for a user to log out and post a message as a visitor (like the EZ Anonymous Posting MOD works). I didn't see a way to do this in Edit Forum Properties, didn't find any mods on SnitzBitz that were applicable, and didn't see anything useful by doing a search in these forums.

Our Snitz forum has been sitting here since 2003 after we were told by our Vice President not to implement it because it would decrease productivity. I removed the link to it on our home page but left the forum available and ready to go. And sure enough, that VP is no longer with the company. I have another chance to get this going now, so I hope an expert can tell me how to hide the user name in one forum. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.<

it shouldn't be too difficult to do you would just need to hide the message icons and the username based on the forum_id, will take a look tonight and post some code for you later<

That sounds excellent. Thank you very much.

EDIT - I just happened to think further on this, and it would be prudent to allow the Administrator to determine the identity of anyone who posts a message, in case someone might want to use the anonymity of the forum to make a threat or some other hostile act. If that's not easy to accomplish, I suppose we can always check the server logs for the website and determine who was accessing the page at the time the message was posted.<

it's going to take a little longer than I tought, but was basically going to hide the poster from view, so everything else would work normally, IE you could open up the db and see who did actually postthe message if required, will have a sleep on it and try and post you some code in the morning.

Are you using standard base snitz code? or do you have other MODS installed<

That's good that the posting information is saved in the database.

I have no MODS installed. It's the basic code, with two files modified by order of the ASP guys downtown. I edited admin_config_email.asp to remove 16 of the 19 email options, and edited admin_home.asp to restrict database options to SQL Server only.<
