I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but here goes.

If and when Snitz is upgraded, I would like to see "Active Topics" give the user a chance to go to the first new post since their last visit in each forum.

that's a good one, I would whole-heartedly agree.

But, if we're doing a wish list, I'd like to see a .NET version of Snitz. I know this conversation has come up many times and pretty much shot down, but one can still wish can't they? <

Wouldn't you need the developers to learn .NET too before that came about?

I know you got started in .NET already cause I have modified some of your mods that using .NET. Maybe you could be part of the dev team, if it ever gets going in that direction.<

I kinda like integrating in CSS and the Bookmarks myself... CSS for the obvious reason and the bookmarks because I'm sure I'm not the only one who comes here a day or so later and forgets that topic that he/she was going to reply too as soon as there was time.<

We have quite a few ppl on the dev team, but the more recent active ones are Richard, Huwr, myself, Da_Stimulator. And the mods help with testing before major version are released. At least, that was how it was when development was going.

See a list of other dev members in the members list:

A project like this should have no less than 2 admins, 5 active developers and 5 active testers assuming active means 10+ hours a week.

Its no wonder there has been no devolopment progress in two years!

defining minimum weekly activity for no less than 12 people without setting targets/deliverables/timeframes/priorities first is a bit strange isn't it ? If you don't know what to achieve and by when, why spend 10 hours a week on it ?

Snitz had plenty of tagets and goals before development got stuck in the mud. Where is that international version eh?<

International version is somewhere on a server taking a well needed rest and relaxation. hehe
Last I heard Huwr was doing some testing. That was ummm, uhh, month, 2 months? I dunno when he told me that!

If people want, we can always get a group of developers and branch off and make our own Snitz forum. After all, the developers of popular CMS system Mambo, are doing it. (http://www.opensourcematters.org/) lol<

This and other threads have kind of highlighted an undercurrent I've noticed - major development (MODs not withstanding) has kind of stalled.

When checking out the developers list I noticed a lot of names that according to the Members List haven't been around in a while...

I mentioned above about adding CSS and the bookmarks above. The more I think about it, the more I think that it would be nice to get something started up again.

For what their worth, here are my thoughts on the matter:

- I think the mods that make the forum in and of itself more customizable should be added in (i.e. FAQ Admin, Custom Policy, Forum Rules, Smilie Mgr., etc)

- After having hacked the code a bit for my intranet forum, I think its past time for a complete re-write.

- This re-write should include a more Class/Object-oriented structure. By doing this it will make it more modular, and if anybody wanted, easy to convert to .NET. It would make it easier to add MODs (though the current ones would probably have to be updated to work with it)

I am willing to back up my opinion with action. I am currently working on this for the intranet site I maintain at work (with an eye for something to return back to the community). So far, I've taken the SpeedBall II version of Snitz (for the CSS), added most of the MODS, and am about to start work on the Object Modeling. Working solo, I don't anticipate a quick development schedule . I don't want to release this as another "fork" in the Snitz development as I think that at some point this detracts from the forum more than it adds to it... If there is something like this project already in progress I'll be more than happy to sign up!

Please don't misunderstand me, I love this software! I chose it for a reason. I just want to see it continue to prosper.<

No they cant because someone here has decided to put a copyright on copyleft. As long as they start with Snitz as the basecode they are required to have the link back to this site HERE. It doesn't matter how much they advance the board they wont be able to build a sucessful comunity around their improved software because all their boards will have a link back here.

Anyone who is fed up with Snitz not developing anymore should go start their own board from scratch.

I wouldn't know any Snitz forum members who have done that. (The irony in ironies is that deveopment on that board is equally stale.)

Probably more like six months Davio,

I'm afraid I gave up on testing due to 1) lack of time to work out a viable solution and 2) the internationalised version is just too bloated to run on the majority of shared hosting accounts, due to it's massively increased resource usage<
