On a Cobalt RaQ server (quickly becoming the most popular web server out there) the only supported database (without breaking warranty) to load on the box is Borland InterBase. Is there any possibility the Snitz forums will supprot this in the near future?
As far as I know you are allowed to install MySql even on a RAQ.
But, I see that Interbase has a Windows version also (was that always the case ?), so it might be worth adding this one to the list. I agree with you that the Cobalt RAQ is a great piece of work. If you look at the list of pre-installed software: WOW
Sorry I didnt know which to post it in. I just found this forum. You can install MySql on a RaQ but they can void any warranty and support associated with it. Interbase is the only DB solution they support right now.
Ok, installed InterBase 6.0 on my W2K server. That was a piece of cake. After a quick look in the documentation it looks as if (almost) all the MS SQL Server sql is also supported by InterBase.
The only big problem I ran into is the lack of free ODBC driver. It is said that one for version 6.0 is being developed, but not ready yet (beta was available, but only 30 days so no option). I also read that the client kit for version 5.6 had an ODBC driver that should work with version 6.0 but I can't find a download location for 5.6 It isn't on the Borland site, they only provide download for 6.0
