Hi there, before I install this, I am just curious what will happen if a user uploads a virus infected file to the server and my Norton AntiVirus catches it and removes it from the server? I want to enable my users to upload Visio files (.vsd), which potentially could have macro viruses in them. Will this really screw things up? Will there be broken links? If so, how could I repair them?

Thanks,

Adam<

well my mod lists file who actually exists in their respective folder. so if a file doesnt exist. then it doesnt exist and wont be listed whatsover... but if the file was uploaded and attached to a post and was removed due to virus check. it will appear as a broken link then since the file wont exist...<

This is an AWESOME mod and thanks for modifying it korayem!

Two problems though (maybe you're working on these):
  • When uploading a file that has spaces or special characters, it does wierd things to the file, like makes the link to the file invalid (puts underscores in the name) and it cannot be deleted or renamed, or linked to. It can be downloaded though.

  • When a new member tries to upload a file for the first time, it does not automatically create a folder for him/her. I have to manually go into my forums folder on my host and create a new folder (21, 22, 23, etc.). Isn't this supposed to create the folder for them? And yes, the appropriate permissions are set on the files folder for creating new folders.

Thanks for your help, and I hope the finals went well!

Locnar, thanx for your kind words, the finals were ok
YES, those 2 specific problems (along with alot of other bugs) have been already solved. expect the new FINAL version to be out in about a week.

the new version now creates smaller byte size thumbnails(using ASP Components), addition of file description, counter for number of downloaded times, admin log file of all actions done (ie edit, upload, rename along with time and ip), better before upload verification of file type, set type of file sharing(shared or not) with either of guests and memebrs etc....

infact if you're interested you can join some other friends of mine in doing the final beta testing (you only will get the source code) untill we make sure that all is working flawlessly i will release the mod in its final form.<

Hi Korayem,

Just wondering how this is coming along. I am looking forward to it, and hopefully there will be a walkthrough on how to upgrade from the previous version for all us less-than-gurus .

Ok, downloaded it, installed it, found it to be little bit buggy.
I know you are busy and are updating it but just to let you know a few things to look at:
- javascript Mouseover functions don't exist..
- in the zip file there is no icon file and no instructions what to do..
- when the members uploads and the folder doesn't exist you receive an error..
- the java functions checking the size of the image give java-errors when file is too large..
- filenames are not htmlencoded, so processing names with a # or space won't work

It took me a few hours to find and fix the above and change to way browsing works but for now I want to thank you for your mod :)
My members finally can attach files!

hey ajhvdb, i really do appreciate your bug findings cuz this is what i really want before the final release.

some of the bugs you reported have been already corrected, if you wish you can download the current version i have at my site if you are willing to do me some more bug finding cuz this will speed up the releasing of the final version and will help me.

you can download it from this link:

http://hasdot.com/mods/File_Sharing_MOD_FINAL_2.3_30-7-2003_no_mouseover.zip

regarding the JS mouseover functions i am planning on releasing 2 versions, one with and the other without this JS so people can choose which version they want<

Is it going to become available anytime soon? I am looking forward to it. I am already using the old version and that one, other than a few bugs, is great!<
