I am on an NT server that host about 1000 websites all owned by the same company. I have full administrative access to the server and all the files. I'm trying to set up the forum at

http://www.musicsurvey.com/messages/forum/default.asp

Can you look at the error and tell me what the problem is. And can somebody tell me what or where the IUSR_MACHINENAME is??? In my MusicSurvey.com directory I set up three folders: fpdb, forum, and tools and unziped the files exactly where they are supposed to be. Please give me some help... I ran the whereami and the setup.asp(after I tried to install) and I keep running in circles. Please help.

IUSR_MACHINENAME is setup where the rest of the user's on your server are setup. (i.e. the Administrator and Guest Accounts)

When you talk about setting the file permissions, for me, would I need to have read/write on the fpdb directory and the access database file that is contained in it?

Yep.
And you also need to make sure the IUSR_machinename has the proper permission to read and write.

It's possible the Internet Guest account is configured to a different NT user than the standard IUSR_computername user.

You can check in MMC by looking at the anonymous access area of the web properties.

Generally, you can use windows explorer to navigate to the folder with the .mdb file. Give the anonymous web user account read/write/chage permissions to the folder and file. In addition, the anonymous web user may need full permissions to the TEMP directory as defined in your environment variable TEMP or TMP
