I really want to have an Oracle version of the forum. I know it's not supported yet. Does anybody have the forum working on Oracle? If they do could you post it for download or indicate what needs to be changed? I would also apreciate information as to how the process is going along.
Regards, Paco

Hey paco,
If you want to see the the progress on the Oracle implementation just set the show topics drop down menu on main Oracle forum page to all topics from last year.
This will show you all of the messages between the developers / administratoe of the Snitz forum and its users.
so far I think several issues have been solved. Now I think we are trying to get a case-insensative search worked out. A while back we decided to store the message body in a CLOB data column. Thus, complicating any querying, text searching and updating procedures.
Check out the message post... they are interesting...

Hi h2o,
I installed the new Oracle version the other day...am a bit busy with the general forum stuff (like the new ads, setting up a bookstore etc.)...but Mike and Huw (and of course you ) are making sure that I don't forget about the Oracle implementation.

Hello gor,
It's good to hear from you again. I have seen your posts and responses poping up all over the place... I figured you were busy. Truthfully, I have not been able to ponder very much on the Oracle / Snitz issue either. I work for a financial institution and have several large projects being rolled out.
Anyway, good to hear from you... I hope all is well...

I did successfully long time ago, hehehe, almost half yr...
I remember I posted few issues when I did immigrate to ORACLE...
one is about Autonumbers... u need setup a Sequence object and change all insert query..
another one is large text field, like those buddies talked.. CLOB or LONG will give u lots of headache when u doing search...
I was busy on design COM/COM+ after I've done those works, so I haven't been here for long time... nice to see u guys again...

dust,
Please share if you like. My quick guess is that you only had to support Oracle and thus used a lot of Oracle specific things, were we have to also support the other databases with as little as possible extra code, but even then it is nice to have something to check my code against. Would you mind mailing me your code ?
thanks,

Thanks to everyone. Just came from a trip and saw all this replies. I'm glad it's possible and it keeps moving on.
Anyway we have decided to use SQL as one of the programs we are using has been bought by Microsoft and it probably will not support Oracle any more.
Thanks again, Paco
