I just visited the forum on my website this morning. I was still logged in after leaving it almost 12 hours ago. My PC had been switched off all night. Does the active connection not drop out after a set time of innactivity? Is this a potential security hole?

That is because the forum is cookie-based and effectively 'remembers' who you are. If you want to logout, then you have to press the logout button.
