if you don't need access to even run the forums why do you need it in the first place?

another thing to add in the config.asp file access 97 and 2000 both have an example of the path leading to a local drive. Shouldn't it be leading to the path on the server. I don't know some1 just tell me what to put for an access 97 database I don't get it

you do not need access, unless you wish to manually edit the database.
Yes, the paths are locl, but they are local relative to the webserver.
Have you uploaded the files to your website? if so where did you copy your database relative to the files ?

Well, for one, Apache doesn't support ASP files. So you wouldn't be able to use the forums.
And two, the forum files are on the server. So it will look on the hard drive the files are on, for the database file. It's not going to look for the C: drive on your computer, it's looking for it on the server it is on. The server is just another computer like yours that has a local drive.

According to the specifications found on this site, this forum will run a UNIX, if you have Chili!Asp with Apache then your .asp files should run.
At least I hope because this is the direction I'm taking and I sure hope that the learning curve on this will still be valid on UNIX!

the reason why it is "c:\whatever" is because that particular Connect String needs to know the exact location of the DB on the file server
say your database was in c:\intepub\wwwroot\database\yourdb.mdb
you could use the connect string mentioned above IF you knew the exact location on the file system...
OR ( better )
use the one with Server.MapPath("/database/yourdb.mdb") which basically is a VB function that takes the "virtual" path to your DB and makes it into the file system variation that the web server wants to see
if you need further help, feel free to contact me via email or aim ( listed in my profile ), once you get one working, it'll never be a problem to set one up again, its that easy once you understand what the connection sting is looking for
