How would I make it so users can use PNG images for their photos?

As far as I know there is no restriction on .gif or .jpg images for that. It all depend on the browser being able to display it....

I mean, would I have to add any code to make it display PNG?

As far as I know, no you don't have to change anything but I don't know what browser(versions) support PNG...
