When trying to review a certain topic's it either takes forever or I get a server timeout. This only happens with a few post's, other post's open up instantly. Any Idea's? |

Ed,
I can't explain why this happens, so I can only ask questions hoping you can find an explaination: * could it be something in the specific topics that can't be rendered since others display ok and it seems to be restricted to a couple of topics ? Are they all by the same user ? Could it be something in the users signature ? * could it be one of the MODs ? i.e. a missing field in the database so that info is missing and the database is waiting for that ? * I know it doesn't happpen on certain moments during the day, because each time I looked sofar (at different times) the time-out error was displayed. * ....

Pierre,
Thank you for your time,
These topics that seem to have a problem are large (4k) they only include text, no urls or images. I can edit them, post.asp has no problem. So when I delete most of the text I am able to view the topic. Is there a limit in topic.asp? I am using the file which is in distribcode.zip. Can it be fixed if there is a limit?

Ed,
There is not size limit in topic.asp Are you using Access or Sql Server ? Could it be that the database is getting rather large ?

Gor,
I am using access97 DB with my connection type "MS Access 2000 using virtual path"
Huw,
I even tried a new post with a cut & paste of the info, got the same results. That one was definately not edited.

Could you email me one of the topics, exactly as entered, I will check it on myserver using a 97 db and the same connstring as you, see if I can duplicate the error

Then the size shouldn't be a problem yet. Hope Huw can duplicate the error....

This is what seems to be my limit for topic size (characters including spaces): 2500 is the max. Under 2000 was prime.
Thanks again for all your help,
Ed

Huw, could this be something that was set in the ODBC driver on the ISP-server ? or just something that is caused by an old(er) version of the driver ?

If it's a problem with the database driver shouldn't it effect the post or edit function as well? |
