Hi,

I have downloaded the snitz forums zip files and am still going through the installation instructions. The instructions say to:

"The snitz_forums_2000.mdb file needs to be uploaded into a directory where
the directory permissions have been set to read/write, i.e. a cgi-bin/ or fpdb/ folder. Also, it's advisable to make sure this directory is not accessible by the web to stop people downloading the database. Bottom line, set up the "IUSR_YOURMACHINENAME" account (or EVERYONE) to have full control
of that file/directory outside of your web server (most secure)."

I don't have a cgi bin on my server so directory permissions are set to read/write no matter where the file is put. My question is how do I secure the database file? I have no clue where to put it. I was just going to leave it in the tools folder or create a new folder called "database" - but I get the impression it doesn't make it secure. I don't what this means: "Bottom line, set up the "IUSR_YOURMACHINENAME" account (or EVERYONE)"

Thanks for your help -I'm a little disheartened that I can't get past the instructions. As you might tell, I've never installed something like this before.

Thanks again.

Is this your own server, or a hosted server?

It's paid hosting - they host my entire website.

what is your current directory structure like?

do you have an HTML or HTMLDOCS directory ? Or is your root directory visible to the web already?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by a HTML or HTMLDOCS directory.

When I use first used the ftp to create my account there were no directory folders. I've just created the folders I needed for my page.

I'm not sure what you mean by my root directory being visible on the web...if you are asking what I'm thinking you are - it's not as my domain name points to the index.html file.

Sorry - I'm new at this.
