Is there an easy way to move the snitz files to another directory without losing existing data or would it be better to do a new installation in another directory and point it at the existing database then delete the old files?
The reason I ask is a friend has installed to the root directory of his server and it makes for hard working to deal with the main webpage files.
Would two installations in different directories on the same server run alongside ok while it's done?
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

just move it, if they are using access they will just need to change the path to the db, if using sql you won't need to change anything..

when moved, log in as admin and set the forum url to the new one under admin options

The root directory has about 12,000 files in it due to poor layout, would it be easier to do as a fresh install and just copy the existing config.asp file in with the database path modified accordingly and just delete the old files as I go along?
It's a lot of files to pick out otherwise and a lot of scope to mess it up.
Will 2 installs using the same db be ok as long as nothing new is posted or will there be clashes?

yes probably
(2 installs should be ok, I have had both the mvc and classic asp versions pointed at the same database without any problems)

Thanks your input Huw it's working, I've not yet changed the url in the admin section and the second installation takes a login but throws me out again, would I be right in thinking that's a cookie thing that will sort itself once fully changed over?

I'm getting the following error message now when trying to edit members details, any ideas why?
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'

No value given for one or more required parameters.

/new_snitz_forum/pop_profile.asp, line 976

Everything else seems to be working ok.

Yes, most likely cookie, just clear your browser cookies that should sort it. I'll have a dig re your other error later as sure I've seen that before.

Yes clearing cookies sorted it, didn't help that I had 2 versions running using 2 different logins at the same time.
Just need to sort the other error now so members can be edited.

You have not got any "mods" in the original install have you?

No mods just a straight fresh install, the only unusual bit was using an existing database and having both forums running at the same time.

Any more ideas on this one please?
Fresh install, no mods, existing database from old snitz forum but I don't think there were any mods there either.
Thanks.

Sorry changed to .txt
http://www.normanboats.co.uk/form_test/pop_profile.txt

As an extra query I've just found this while trying a test registration.
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e37'

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'FORUM_SPAM_MAIL'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly.

/new_snitz_forum/register.asp, line 400

Could this be from using a newer version of the forum on an older versions database?
