I have been using 3.4.04 for about 6 years now. Archive has never worked.
It's getting REAL REAL slow. Part of that is my cheapskate hosted shared server I am sure, but enough's enough! lol
Any old timers have a tip or SHORT CUT to run, or can anyone tell me what this message does for me: quote: No Replies were Archived: none found
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
Line 15: Incorrect syntax near ','.
/forum/admin_forums.asp, line 576
AND where I start to fix this? (I've put this off for literally years!) |

Archiving in Access will have huge difficulties to complete without timeouts, especially if you have many topics to archive. The fact is that the problem is not so much with Access, but with the archiving strategy, that basically archives a post at a time. This is basically flawed, as it is too slow even with MySQL or SQL Server as the database.
Even for MySQL and SQL Server, I have rewritten the archive code to use set statements instead of dealing with individual posts. On some servers, even these set statements fail, but I really see no alternative to them. |

I thought this looked kind of familiar... Tried it years ago and said screw it.. :) Just tried it ALL again and as far as I can get is:
quote: No Replies were Archived: none found
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
Line 18: Incorrect syntax near ','.
/forum/admin_forums.asp, line 574
It was access converted to SQL I don't know HOW long ago, and some BD mishaps along the way and I can't look at anything in the DB, so I'm stuck, I guess.
Huw backed up some once with admin privildges years ago and I STILL don't know how he did it! :) magic, I think....
I ALMOST....... would like to just start over, but naaaaaawwwww not that again! Thanks anyway for your help and link |

Does your server allow external access? I am asking because if it does, I can go in, make sure your table structure is suitable and provide you with a script that will fix your issues. |

I won't be looking for errors. I will reorder table fields to use some optimized archiving code and will add a stored procedure to update forum counts. That will fix the issues, for sure. At least it will enable you to archive one forum at a time.
I've emailed you back. |
