Hi

My forum is currently MS SQL but this limits my choices for hosting (currently thinking of being a reseller and my current host appears to be the only one to support MS SQL)

Is there a reason for this? Is it worthwhile converting to My SQL (can I do this without losing data?)

I'm currently happy with my hosting company but have been asked to build a couple of websites for people so figure if I can offer all the trappings I can earn more money by being a reseller.

MySQL is not better under any perspective. Performance wise, MySQL should perform almost as well, but from a reliability point of view there is really no comparison.
MySQL is free for hosts, while SQL Server must be paid for. That should account for a larger number of hosts offering MySQL, though decent hosts will offer both and many won't charge you more for that.
