Did that poster actually use the [sup] tag or did they put in the thinking it would work?

Hmmm. I just made a test post on your page and noticed something.

If you quote a post with a sub or sup tag it converts the forum code to the html tag. I'm not sure why that is happening. I'll take a look at my code and see what I may have left out for you.

I need some help from someone else to figure this out. I can't find what I have left out to cause this problem.

It seems if you quote the post or edit it later, all of the [sub] and [sup] tags show as and .

Anyone know why it would be doing this?

I suspect that the poster used the proper tags with the []. He later edited his post and the [] showed as <> causing it to no longer display correctly. I do not know why it is doing that. Hopefully someone will chime in soon with the cause and solution.

leatherlips, look at the CleanCode() function in inc_func_posting. It reverses what happens in ChkString(). I think that's what you're missing.

Yes, he edited the post. I'll sit her in a nice snitz corner with my cup of coffee and wait for someone to come by.

Edit: Cripto came by

Thank you cripto9t!

Based on that, here is what you need to do Torborg:

In inc_func_posting look for:

fString = replace(fString, "<s>", "[s]", 1, -1, 1)
fString = replace(fString, "</s>", "[/s]", 1, -1, 1)

Below that add:

fString = replace(fString, "<sup>", "[sup]", 1, -1, 1)
fString = replace(fString, "</sup>", "[/sup]", 1, -1, 1)
fString = replace(fString, "<sub>", "[sub]", 1, -1, 1)
fString = replace(fString, "</sub>", "[/sub]", 1, -1, 1)

Great!

You may now want to go back and edit MBE's post at http://www.biologforeningen.org/enbiolog/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17748 so that it displays correctly.

Now that you have added sub and sup scripts you could add common words to the bad word filter and have it automatically display it the proper way.

For example:

In your bad word filter type H2O and have it be replaced by H[sub]2[/sub]0. Then if your members forgot to add the sub tag it wouldn't matter because the filter would add it automatically.

Also, if you added other words that have already been added in past posts, they would all instantly be updated to display properly.

Just a suggestion.

It didn't work because all the old H2O became H[sub]2[/sub]0. The code was visible. It works on new postings but looks ugly on old. No problem .
