Yep, just as I thought.
As you are using MySQL 5.1.x, I suggest that you change the M_SIG column from text to varchar(5000), for example, then set the default value to ''.

I've done that and am still getting the following error when trying to activate new member

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000e'

Out of string space: 'Trim'

/forum/inc_func_common.asp, line 287

However, the sig is now showing, but the text in each post (current and new) is still showing as ????

Yes, all original posts have changed to ??? and any new post look OK until you submit it and then it just shows as ???

If I preview the post before submitting it shows correctly, it is just once submitted it then shows as ???

No not much info - I was just trying to set it up when I got these problems! All the posts are just test posts at the moment.

Ok, here is what we could try.

1. Run setup.asp?Rc=5 confirming any prompt about deleting the database contents.
2. Change the M_SIG field as before

3. Post and see if the problem persists.

Done that, I didn't get any prompt about deleting the database contents?

Do you have a link to that forum? Have you checked the encoding being used by your browser? Has anything changed, browser wise, between before the ??? and now?!

It's not an encoding issue. I am at loss to explain this.

What charset is the database configured to use?

If you create a SQL dump, the code for each table will show it. You can post a link to it here or email me the file, of you want to.
