Hi
Sorry again for the newbie question.

I am unable to use apostrophies in my posts and subject titles. For example when I type don't, can't that's etc.. I get strange characters.

How can I fix this?

When you type them in or paste them in? I've seen them break pasting smart quotes and apostrophes from Word, but not just typing them in.
Switch the order of your title tags

Type out the smart quotes and apostrophe in Word, then paste them in the bad word filter one at a time and have it change them to the straight ones. Fixed the problem completely for me.
Switch the order of your title tags

I always just used notepad... loads a little faster than Word when all I need is plain text.
