Hello, I've just installed the setup yesterday, and I'm experiencing some issues. No changes I try to make succeed. No new usernames (myself included) can create accounts. The error returned is:

Unexpected quantifier

/forums/inc_func_member.asp, line 43

The line in question is:
retVal = regEx.Test(fTestString)

What can be done?

Are you specifying a valid email address?

Yes I am, but is it required to have an e-mail server set up to run the forum software? I don't have that, e-mail validation and e-mail mode are both set to off. Is that relevant?

But even if I try to change the configuration, say the admin e-mail address on the E-mail Server Configuration page, I get the same warning.

It looks like I missed a bit when I copied it before, it also says
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a139a'

Can you post a link to a *.txt copy of your inc_func_member.asp as well? It looks like there's an invalid/unescaped character in the regular expression used in the EmailField function.

Regular expression is fine, anyway; exactly the same as it is in the base code.

I wonder whether these regular expressions are supported on IIS 5.0.

I'm running this on a Window 2000 Server box, would I have to upgrade the O/S in order to use snitz's software?

Do you know if others have been able to run it on W2KS?

Do you have the latest updates installed?
I just offered that as a possibility, as I think regular expressions require Javascript 1.2, but I am not sure. I also suggesting this, as this problem never showed up before, so I am thinking it is something specific to your setup.

To make sure all is working until the problem line, you can add these two statements before it:

Response.Write fTestString
Response.End

Then try the registration and let me know what is shown.

if anything, it will be the version of the vbscript engine not the IIS version that is the issue.

you will need to find out what version of vbscript is running

It's the javascript engine... Not sure whether we had this code here. It was first posted as a security fix, if I remember.

No it isn't, it is using vbscript for the regexp not javascript, it needs at least 5.5 or higher for the scripting engine

You're right, Huw, it's vbscript. Sorry.
