I believe an Access DB can grow to 1 or 2 GB

The size limit of an Access database is 1 GB
With MSDE 1.0 or the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine you can go up to 2 GB
MS Sql Server 7.0/2000 can store up to 1,048,516 TB of data

Technically an Access database has no size limit, because you can link to tables in other databases from within an Access database.
Also remember that when you delete records from an Access database, the size doesn't shrink. You need to Compact the database for that to happen.

The largest Access database I've ever used was about 500 MB, and that is huge (wasn't for a Snitz forum though). It should never reach that size used in combination with the forums. Your forum would much sooner become way too slow than that you reach the size limit of 1 GB.

well, my snitz isn't close to that, but i assume it will get big. is the only way to prevent a growing snitz to delete topics? (and then compact)?

Archiving...like is in the new Alphas...isn't a real option, since that stores the info in the same database...but it would speed things up a bit...since the tables that get hit for i.e. search are smaller.
But other than that....nothing else you can do then delete from time to time...or upgrade to MS SQL or MySql.
